Arched Windows

Arched windows – also known as radius windows – feature a rectangular bottom half along with a rounded or arched top portion. Arched windows can be manufactured from a single pane of glass, with grid bars that divide the glass into smaller panes, or even with separate rectangular and arched glass portions, depending on the look of your home.

Arch windows can help bring an element of softness to any room, providing a contrast with the square edges of other rectangular windows. And because arched windows can be manufactured to allow fresh air into your home or fixed in place to allow only light, they will work great no matter what you need.

Dormer Windows

Dormers are roofed structures that are built on the sloped side of a pitched roof. Very often, dormers contain windows, which helps to let extra light into an attic or loft, in addition to helping increase the usable space in these rooms.

Dormer windows can often be found in homes with colonial, Greek revival, or cottage-style architecture, but they can also be built in just about any home style that has a sloped roof. If you are thinking about converting your loft into a usable room, dormer windows are a great way to let in extra light, while also helping to increase the usable space in these rooms.

Palladium Windows

Palladium (or palladian) windows are groupings of three windows that feature an arched opening above the center panel. They are also sometimes known as venetian windows, because of their roots in Renaissance style architecture.

Palladium windows are usually very large – larger than even picture windows. As a result, they are a great way to bring lots of light into houses with a more traditional style of architecture, such as Adam or Federal style homes. If light and privacy are a concern for you, palladium windows can be installed with shades over both the arched and rectangular openings.

Skylight Windows

Skylights are fixed windows that are built right into a house’s roofline. There are several other variations on skylight windows, including roof windows (which can be opened with a pivoting, awning-style mechanism), light shafts (walled shafts built between roof trusses or joists in the ceiling that link a room to a skylight), and tube windows (small bubble domes built into the roofline and linked to the ceiling with a flexible, reflective tube).

Skylights are a great way to allow extra light into your home, especially if you live in an area that receives limited natural light, or if your house was built with limited wall space for additional windows. The glass for skylight windows is usually made from shatter-resistant glass, to protect against damage from hail or falling tree branches. Skylight windows can even be made in accordance with the spacing requirements of many building codes that allow them to qualify as egress openings.
