What are bay windows?
Bay windows – also known as bow windows – combine three or more windows together. These windows consist of a large central pane that protrudes out from the side of the home, flanked by smaller side windows. Bay windows are mostly used for kitchens and living rooms, but can be applicable for almost any room in the home.
Bay and bow windows are larger in area than regular double hung or casement windows. Because of their size and the fact that they extend beyond the outer wall, these windows allow extra light to enter your home, while also creating additional space or room for seating.
Bay windows can be made from casement windows, double-hung windows, or picture windows. It all depends on your particular needs and the architectural style of your home!
What is the difference between bay and bow windows?
Bow windows are similar to bay windows, but usually consist of four or more equal size panels to create a more even and gentle curve. The panels of a bow window usually open via a cranking mechanism like a casement window.
What are the advantages of bay windows?
Because the bay window extends out from the home it allows a room to be transformed both physically and in the amount of light that is allowed in to the interior. In many cases, the smaller windows at the sides of the bay window can be opened to allow ventilation.
How are bay windows installed?
The first step is to carefully measure the area where the window will be installed so we can build a custom window that will perfectly fit the opening of your old window and match the unique architectural qualities of your home.
When your new windows are ready, we take out the old window and perform an inspection to look for mold, rot, or other damage that may have been hidden. Lastly, we install your new bay windows. We add sealant and insulation to guard against weather, and new trim to help your windows blend perfectly with your home’s style.
What is the installation cost for bay windows?
Because bay windows consist of three or more separate windows, the exact price for materials and installation can vary depending on the number of windows, the size of the windows, additional features that you request, or the type of glass that you want.
